Obama Claims Democrats Are Targeting Party Members Who Dont Agree With Left Views

Former U.S. President Barack Obama recently voiced his criticism towards the way the Democratic Party has been treating certain groups of people, in particular, those who do not express far-left views.

Obama pointed out that one of the tenets of democracy is that people should be accepting of those who disagree with them and take them into consideration when making their own decisions. And with that in mind, Obama continued, people should not expect to get exactly what they want in every case.

He stated: ” The way we structure democracy requires you to take into account people who don’t agree with you. And that by definition means you’re not going to get 100 percent of what you want. One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives, we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad’ where you start shooting at your allies because one of them has strayed from purity on the issues.”

The retired politician went on to say that the Democratic Party has started to create a situation where they are attacking their allies, only because one or more of them have “dared” to express views that do not immediately align with those of the party as a whole.

Obama seemed worried that there might be waves of nationalism coming in not too long from now and warned people to be wary of that situation and to keep their guard up.

He explained: “Nationalism, particularly from the far right, has re-emerged. And we know where that leads. Europe knows better than anyone where that leads.”

The former president has been quite active in meeting various prominent political figures recently and has been involved in multiple conversations behind closed doors regarding the current state of global politics.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Donald Trump has continued to take any chance he gets to attack Obama and statements made by him, although it does not seem like this has affected the former president too much at this point.

These personal attacks from one side to the other are nothing new under the sun in any case, which could explain his nonchalant attitude.
