Nurse chanted 'Shame!' as she 'milked' breastfeeding Game of Thrones star Lena Headey

If you're reading and re-reading the headline above in a state of utter bewilderment, you have our sympathy. We can't quite believe it either.

Nonetheless, Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey, who stars on the show as the amoral, power-hungry Cersei Lannister, has said that a nurse did indeed decide to chant "Shame!" at her while helping her breastfeed her newborn daughter.

The actress was speaking to the New York Times about how, ever since her character was forced to perform an infamous naked walk of shame in season five of the show, fans have been keen to show their appreciation – and not always in a tactful way.

Some, rather bizarrely, choose to chant "Shame!" if they catch the actress in public, in the manner of the show's sadistic Septa Unella (Hannah Waddingham), who dolefully intones it as Cersei is forced to walk through jeering crowds.

But, when it comes to inappropriate fan behaviour, the over-enthusiastic hospital nurse in question definitely takes the crown (or the iron throne).

According to the NYT: "The story ends with the nurse, nipples in hand, chanting 'Shame' as 'she’s milking me like a human cow,' Ms. Headey said."

“I was flying on morphine, so it was sort of funny,” the actress added. “Had I been vaguely in the world, I might have been more offended.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Headey spoke about the pressures of forging a career in a sexist industry, and about the challenges she faced while filming the Fox series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which ran between 2008 and 2009.

“My voice was very quickly ignored and my opinions were very much not wanted,” she said of her time on the show.

She also expressed her exasperation over the criticism Game of Thrones has faced about its depiction of sexual violence, querying why people single out representations of rape, instead of focusing on some of the other horrors on offer (such as, for example, child murder).
